95-97 Auto 4x4

One more question mav...

That diagram is of the female connector, correct?

Mine is a '97 and I just want to make sure they are the same.

I did this mod to my '97 and it was all the same. It worked good, I also have the "4x4" and the "4x4 Low" lights flashing on and off every couple of minutes.

Thanks for the help and info mav.

another question....

With this info, would it be possible to do the opposite thing for us 95-97's who do not have a full-time 4wd High? Anyway to send a signal to the t-case telling it to engage 4wd high. (my 95 only has 2wd, 4auto, 4low) I know we've discussed this before, but maybe somone had some new ideas?

It should be the same as the '97, and yes my 4x4 lights do flash every so often...

jwild4x4,
The '97 - '01 Exploders have Auto 4wd, not Full Time 4wd. You could modify your Exploder, but you would have to replace your transfer case with the TOD version. That stands for Torque On Demand. You would also have to replace your GEM with a '97 - '01 GEM. Let me know if you have any other question...

It is my understanding that the T/Cs are the same between 95-96 and 97-01. The only differences with the systems being that 95-96 has the vacuum operated disconnect system in the front axle tube for 2wd and the GEMs being programmed differently because of this. Both T/Cs have a electronic clutch in them that the GEM sends a signal to for the front drive shaft to be engaged in 4auto when it senses slippage fron the rear driveshaft sensor in the T/C itself.

If any of this is incorrect then by all means correct me. I am going by my HELMS manual for the 95 model year for the info I provided for the 95-96 years. I admit I know very little about the systems for 97+, only what I have read here on the boards.
