95+ console computer

Hey guys! I own a 1997 4 dr XLT w/ the V8. It has most of the factory options, and some of those I want to install. I just purchased the console computer that you can find in the eddie bauers real cheap on ebay. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of installing one of these on a vehicle not so equipped. I have begun looking behind the dash for unused plugs... and found one the seems to go to the automatic air conditioning system.... but no luck on the console computer. any info on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks for your time... and hit me up email or here... peace

Try a search on the subject.....

What you will basically find is that this is not plug and play at all, and it will take some time to do, but can be done. I recommend you get yourself a copy of the factory service manual before you start on the project.

didn't know explorerunderground was being sold.. that's interesting (BTW I hate that decal.. but the wife wanted it on).

Well so far I've spend about 2 hrs behind my dash checking everything out... still no luck...
Is there anyone in the Charleston, SC area +/- 50 miles or so that has one (console computer) that they would mind me pulling up and checking out the wiring??
If so that would be great.
And does anyone know where I can get a ford service manual for the computer? I think that's a great idea but don't know where to start with that... any idea on cost?

Bad news, those unused wires you're looking for don't exist. You'll have to do all the wiring by yourself. I remember one member on this site doing it, and remember that it was a major PITA and took many hours to get it all wired.

But if you decide not to do it, let me know, I'll take it off your hands. My 96 EB's console computer needs replacing. Ticks off miles while sitting still!!! Really screws up the calculations for range, etc...

I tried searching - no luck

When I had my bled door replaced I asked about switching to the digital/auto heat and also about the ful computer stuff.

I was told NO.

If anyone has info about it. I would apprieciate it.

I'm also interested in this mod. Unable to find any info on the wiring. First off, how does the computer monitor fuel use (source of the data)? Secondly, which sensor feeds it the info regarding distance traveled? Seems like it would only need these two parameters to calculate the mpg, DTE, etc.
