Hey guys/gals, new to the board and just bought a 99 XLT explorer and have a friend with a 97 center console computer that he will sell. My question is this, can I plug that right into current wiring or am I wasting time on this? I know the 97 part number is different from the 99 part number for the computer, but not sure if that matters. Any input would be great.

Welcome to the boards!!!

The message center is definitely not an OBD II equipment. It basically tells you the normal stuff like fuel usage and stuff.

The message center is not plug and play. You have to study the wiring diagrams and such. If you do a search, a guy did this and it literally took him about 20 hours to do it. If you're up for it, go right ahead.

I have an Eddie Bauer with the message center and believe me, I don't look at that thing anymore. I only use it when I fuel up because it tells me how many gallons of fuel I used.

Good luck!!
