95 explorer audio questions from a newb!!

My G/F just got a 1995 X XLT. It is all stock, and I want to replace the head unit and add a sub. I know alot about car audio as I used to compete. But my questions are....

What is actually needed to take the deck out and install a new CD player? (install kits, wires) The stock deck is just plain old, no brand name addons or anything. Does she have a factory amp I need to bypass or anything??

Next is, I want to get her a sub that is easy to remove or hidden... Now I have seen the Q logic box for the 10in sub that is hidden in the rear. How does this thing sound? I already have a few JL 10s laying around that I could install no prob, but will this thing even sound great?? My other option is a Bazooka tube. I have heard a few of these in cars and they thump pretty well. Will a 10inch zooka tube sound well in an X?? How does it compare to the hidden box??

I have a bazooka tune in mine and it sounds alright. If anything, I'd rather go with the Q Logic box because of the location and I heard they sound decent. My HU is stock... so I cant tell you about bypassing amps or anything. Did you look around in the audio forum? Theres tons of info and pics there of peoples setups.

You don't HAVE to bypass the factory amp, I didn't for over 6 months. It sounds a lot better without the factory amp. I posted about this in Dead Link Removed
I think 95 and 96 wire colors are the same. I also think you'd be better of with the stealth enclosure than a bazooka tube.

To install the deck you just need a standard 1.5 din to single din mounting kit from Best Buy or where ever.
You also need a wiring harness, which will be 2 pieces, if I remember my 95 Explorer correctly. One is for the power and ****, and the other is for the speaker wires, etc
You may also need a converter thing, forget what they are called, but I needed one for my 95, which is wired inline with all the speaker wires.
I also needed to wire up a relay to get my remote turn on to work with my Pioneer, the ******* wouldnt work right without it.

Oh yea, use some of those JL's in the rear cargo thing, friends dont let friends use Bazooka tubes. Just my opinion on the subject.

I picked up my bracket, din removal tool, and the wires all at wal-mart. I did however have some problems by-passing the amp. I went to a local audio shop and got one that didn't work, so i just spliced wires. If you need me to match them up again, i can find the diagrams on my tech disk. I have the MTX ThunderForm, which is a stealth box also. Its alrite, IMO its not worth the $$$ but i'll live with it. I like that its stealth, and the only way you can tell i have a system is by my headunit. Good Luck and have some patience!

I was only trying to clarify for you guys that the Explorer was his gf's and not his.

I was perfectly aware the Ex was his girls truck. I can read just fine. You didn't want to clarify anything. If you did you could have done it a hell of a lot better. And without being a smartass.
