Someone told me up to 1998 would work. But i find no answers to support that claim.Does anyone know why they wont work?Is it a gear ratio thing or ?

A 5R55E would work if you swap the range sensor, EPC, and TCC solenoids. It will only have 4 gears like your 4R55E. It's possible to have 5 gears with a special controller.

Can we elaborate on this statement a little? How straight forward is the swap of the range sensor? Does the VB need to be dropped to swap the EPC & TCC solenoids?

In the process of diagnosing the issues with a family members 95 4x4 4r55e with codes 337 639 632. My search abilities aren't what they used to be.

The valve body does not have to be removed but using solenoids from a bad trans is a risk as they could be bad and a new 95 EPC solenoid is expensive, however tested used ones can be got. Best to get a 4R55E trans manual, then you will know how to change and which ones as there are a total of 6 solenoids. plus the range sensor.

332 is an engine code - EGR valve opening not detected
trans codes
632 is- Overdrive cancel switch not changing state
639 is- insufficient input from transmission speed sensor

Fixing these things may fix the trans.

Not wanting to hijack this thread, but wanting to methodically try to trouble shoot this thing before replacing with a rebuild, because this one itself has been rebuilt. Also always reluctant to start another thread for fear of not seeing what was already here.

I'm reading about pressure testing, wondering if testing of the solenoids is possible, or testing of that Trans speed sensor. Can the egr code give trans info to create the effects I'm seeing. Trying to understand a bunch of what i've been avoiding for years. Ford Electronic Transmissions. This rig is my Aunt Pam's Scooby Mobile, so it deserves my A game.
