'95 Explorer hesitates or stalls after take off from a stop light.

My '95 ford Explorer hesitates or stalls out when taking off from a stop sign or light there are no codes stored i checked for vaccum leaks fuel pressure is good and i just replaced the spark plugs and wires. any suggestions would be helpful

yes i just had the engine apart for a head gasket job and i cleaned them up but the car was doing the same thing before the job too

its got the 4.0L SOHC

If is't a '95 it can't have the SOHC, it is the 4.0L OHV, that's the only engine offered in the '95...

With regards to the injectors- were they actually bench cleaned or just squirt-some-cleaner-and-wipe-the-tips-off kind of cleaning?

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed, and how many miles on the truck?

yeah your right joe sry for the mistake and i just sprayed some brake clean through the fuel injectors there is 177k miles on the truck and it has been doing the hesitation since about 120k

oh yeah i also did a fuel system cleaning on it at like 155k but that didnt work

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the stock 95-01 section. Do you have a check engine light? Did you check for vacuum leaks?

Have you checked the fuel pressure at the rail via the schrader valve?

What about the fuel filter...

yes i did that it was at 38psi and the fuel filter was replaced at like 130k

I know this is really old, but did this problem get resolved? I just put a motor in my 95 and its doing the same. All new top end gaskets before I installed it, no vacuum leaks!

I have a 95 XLT and 2000 Eddie Bauer. I had problems like that from both my 95 and 2000. In my 95, I just needed a tune up but in my 2000, it was the camshaft position sensor. I had a lot of hesitation so I went to Advance Auto to see if there were any codes (I didn't have a check engine light on) and the codes P0340 and P0172 came back. P0340 was a problem with the camshaft position sensor. P0172 was the 02 sensors saying that the fuel was to rich. From my understanding, the camshaft position sensor rarely produces a check engine light and tells the injectors how much fuel to spray. I had the sensor changed on saturday, it acted a little funny throughout the day on saturday. But sunday and today it is driving like a champ. The guys on here know more than I do so I would try their suggestions first. The sensor was like $20 from O'reilly's. I don't know if you can get codes on a 95 at some of the parts stores. The staff would always tell me that my truck is too old for their readers. Good luck.

Thanks for the info, didn't think about the cam sensor that's a good place for me to look. I do have a lean code for bank 2, but can't find a vacuum leak, guess I will get that figured out first and then check out the cam sensor. Makes sense, I've had GM's with bad cam sensors act pretty much the same way, although they always throw codes. Thanks!

i was having this same problem on my 97 explorer. it was throwing 12 different codes but the one that caught my eye was P1451 which is the evap emaissions. it led me to check in the fuse box under the good next to the battery. i found that the fuse mini13 was not blown but had almost caught on fire! the inside of the box around that fuse was white and the fuse itself was half black and half blue. it still showed continuity but i replaced it anyway. the truck instantly ran great. i cleared the codes and it's been 3 days now with no check engine light or new codes thrown. very happy with that fix.
