Hi guys,

I asked this question in another thread but no one responded.

Got spark plugs and fuel filter changed. Mechanic advised to get the MAP sensor changed.
Last week there was an engine sound very loud whenever it is idling and when i accelerate - it is fine. Takes at least 3 cranks to start every time.
Went to NAPA yesterday and they said cylinder # 3 misfire, spark plugs and ignition coil tested ok, failed leakage test. Power is 75psi for that cylinder. I told him to shut the cylinder and he said can't do as oil spill on the spark plugs. While returning home, it stopped in the middle of the road.Waited for 5 minutes and it started. A mile later died again. Called NAPA and told them about this. They came and in the power distribution box removed something and it was fine after that. I do not know what that was.

Went to engine builder and he said- what past in the engine do I want to get rebuild.

I had no answer. Could anyone suggest anything?

I wouldn't spend the money to rebuild an engine (or install a rebuilt engine) in a 23 year old vehicle. JMO, but you'll end up spending way more than it's worth. Nothing lives forever.

It sounds as if the internal parts of the engine is coming to there of its service life now while rebuilding may not be a option, check your fuse box, see/note whatever fuses/relays that been removed then compare it with your fuse diagram in your owners manual then figure out each component that shares that fuse/relay, and see if you have any luck finding anything out of place

Agree but i need it for doing everyday errands. Like 2-3 miles everyday.

2 days ago it didnt start, only cranked. The same very afternoon it start, covered 2 miles and did not start.

After every 10-13 attempts it starts... A mechanic checked spark plugs, cables- they are fine. Also, fuse and relays were checked and it is working fine. He said today he will look at the fuel injectors and maybe computer isn't getting signal that is why can't start. He said he needs a diagram of the injectors and fuse, does anyone has it?

You more than likely will have to buy an alldatadiy membership for your specific engine of your explorer, that way you can
Not only do some of the testing yourself, but have all the diagrams, etc on hand, and sometime you can find a discount code to reduce the price too

If it helps, here are the engine control wiring diagrams. If you print them out they lay side by side.

thanks for the diagram, it is very difficult for me to understand it though.

like every morning the engine starts- it did. took it to another mechanic and guess wht he is still working on it. he already called me and asked- how did you get it start this morning? ha. for that he has to wait till tommorrow morning

Hi guys,

I had no answer. Could anyone suggest anything?
K-seal. You likely have a cracked head. Pattern failure on these engines. If you want to be sure put a coolant pressure tester on it. Got nothing to loose at this point and mine runs great with it. There could be other reasons for low compression though...but if it is cooling related I would try Kseal.

k seal in the engine?
In the coolant. It will plug the crack in the head. I guess it buys time but I drive it every day. Some say it lasts for years. I know some makes/models specify adding products when you change coolant. Plan B - pull the heads on a 24 yo truck....
