My wifes isnt the most mechanical person. When ever i get into her car i hear a new noise and ask "when did that noise start" she replies " What noise?". Tonight i got in her car and started it, but it shut off. I did it a few more time trying to figure out the problem. It ideled very low. i believe thats the issue. The lights are dim and go bright when on the throttle. Also the voltage gauge would move a considerable amount when on the throttle.

So my question is how to i adjust my throttle. My tempo was as easy at turning a screw in or out. Both my 95 explorer and 05 sport trac dont appear to have an external or simple adjustment unless im over looking it.

There is no adjustment, it's set by the computer. If it's low, something is wrong that's causing it. Start with checking the IAC.

On my 96 4.0 OHV there is an adjustment screw on the right side of the throttle body under the throttle butterfly. I think it takes a 5.5 or 6MM socket to adjust it easily. A small metric fit all (adjustable) wrench also works. You will need to take off the plastic cover on the throttle body to make it easier to adjust. I don't know about your 05, I can only comment about what I have experience with.

That screw, wont do anything.

As mentioned, there is no manual idle adjustment. Check the usual suspects, air & fuel filters, vac leaks, fuel pressure, and strength of spark.

For gmanpaint Hey Bud. The manual idle screw sure as hell works on my 96. Like I said, I don't know if his 05 has one or not.

Highly doubtful Bud. :thumbdwn:

Unless you changed your engine and your Electronics over to a carbed set up, that screw is no more an IDLE screw than I am the Prez of the USA.

Show us some proof that your screw adjusts your idle. Links, video, anything.

I don't get on here to argue with people. I prefer to lend some advice. Since you are from the show me state, I doubt you will understand writing which is why you need pictures. BUT THE SCREW CONTROLS THE THROTTLE BUTTERFLY ON MY 96. WHICH WILL OVERRIDE THE IAC. HENCE, IT WILL RAISE THE IDLE SPEED

Awww. I bet you think you hurt my feelings don't you?...LOL.

To the OP....
There is a screw under the IAC that has thread locker on it and it is for the idle stop. The thread locker is put on there for no adjustments made after it is set from the factory and helps with vibrations loosening it. I do not suggest messing with that screw and figure out the REAL issue at hand. If you do mess with it, break the seal, turn that stop screw, the change in rpms are minimal. You do not want the throttle stop adjustment to conflict with the PCM controlled IAC valve. This is important. Search the forum, you will find this to be the case. ;)

There is a procedure that can be followed to work on that stop screw, and most of the time, is a waste, as the real problem lies somewhere else. The ecm needs to be re-set and has to re-learn after it cycles with the new adjustment as well. Most likely your IAC needs cleaned or replaced.

Bottom line is this.....Find the real problem, fix it. :salute:

^^^^ True dat.
If you want screws to play with, put a carb on it. Otherwise, learn how to deal with the computer controls.
