i just installed a new set of fog lights into my 95 ltd. i used the stock locations but i think i screwed up the lighting. i wanted to still use the factory fog light button on the center console. i used to use 893 and the new ones use h3's
what i did was splice the old harness and attached to the new one.....works but i keep blowing fuses right away so i know its wrong ??

what was the best, simplest, and easiest way to do it - still using the factory switch ?

It may be that the new lights are a higher wattage than the stock ones. They may require more power and thus put a larger load on the stock wiring and fuses. I'm sure your best bet is to run the wiring that probably came with the lights and wire it to the factory switch.

Also, you may want to avoid posting the same question in two different forums in the future (it's a violation of the posting rules); and the moderators frown on that. Most of the moderators and a lot of members read all the new posts, so they will see it wherever you post it. I responded to this one because this is where this question probably belongs.

I would go with the higher wattage theory also. What brand light did you replace the stock fogs with? I used the PIAA 1552's, with the superwhite H3's (55w) on my 98, and splicing them into the stock wiring worked fine. Here's a link to a previous post that has some pics of it Dead Link Removed

thanks guys

actually rytm1 as i was going around this morning i came across the post you were telling me about. i didn't really use any brand name lights such as piaa, i am on a tight budget. but what i got was the same wattage and setup.
as i was looking at your pics i decided to compare, what had happened was on one of my splices there was still a little bit of wire which ended up touching the other, so thats why i was getting a short.
so i just taped up every thing nice and good, set every thing in place and works perfectly now.

thanks alot for all the help though. really appreciate it.

stephenS sorry bout the double post, thanks for letting me know

No problem man; I didn't intend to be mean or anything, just wanted to give you a heads up before a moderator got onto you.
