I have a 95 XLT 4.0, AT 188K miles. For the last year or so, there have been times when it's hard to get the shifter out of the park position. Normally, this has been when the truck is parked on a pretty steep incline. The problem is getting worse as it is starting to occur on level ground. Sometimes, the only way to get it out of park is to jostle the ignition key and the shift lever and it 'magically' comes out of park. Oh, and I do have my foot on the brake whenever I try and get it out of park. Anyone have any ideas on this? thanks

I remember something a while back about some guy posting about bolts falling from under his dash and he had trouble with the shifter. Not sure if this is your problem but maybe something is loose up there or someone else can recall precisely if this was the issue.

when parking on an incline you should always stop. set the parking brake. then put it in PARK. then its not locked into the PARK gear

Maybe a bad Park/Neutral Position switch on the tranny..
