95 XLT CEL Light Bulb Replacement

I need to replace the CEL bulb on my 95 XLT. How much of the dash needs to come out to do this job? Are any special tools needed? I looked for a 'how to' or a 'diy' but couldn't find anything. Any advice is appreciated.

search for cluster swap or bulb change, there are some writeups that show the procedure. You're removing the radio bezel, knee panel, the surround that goes around the cluster, and the gauge cluster enough to reach behind and replace the bulb. It's not bad...

Thanks for the quick reply. Does the steering column have to drop or does the headlight switch or the radio need to be removed?

No need to do anything to the steering column. Just pull away the radio bezel, and remove the kick panel. This will give you access to the hidden screws you need to remove the cluster surround. Once you get the cluster loose, pull it out a few inches and reach behind it to disconnect the electrical harnesses. At this point you will probably have to place the transmission in a low gear (2-1) and tilt the wheel to its lowest position( if you have tilt wheel). Now the cluster should pop right out. Make sure you pull the plastic panels straight out, as the plastic posts that hold the metal clips have a tendency to break. Same is true for the radio bezel.

If you don't have the metal tools to remove the radio you can get away with removing the radio/bezel as one piece, but believe me it's easier to remove the radio first as the harnesses are not very long.
