95' XLT chirp

My engine makes a chirp when you start it up cold and most of the time it goes away within a few seconds. Sometimes it comes back when pulling a hill before it is warmed up. My mechanic tell me it is a cam sensor that is going to cost around $800.00 with parts and labor. It sounds like a belt chirp but I took the belt off and it still made the noise when I started it. An ideas? Thanks!

I got an idea. FIRE that mechanic! That sensor can be found in most junkyards for probably 10 or 20 bucks. It goes in the hole where the distributor would normaly go. I think in order to replace it, you will have to take off the upper intake which is not that hard. I have one that came out of a 2000. Cant remember if 95 or 96 was the first OBD-II year. This one would be OBD-II. If you are interested in it, I will even be in Bremerton at the end of November. I'll bring it with me. How does 15 bucks sound? While I'm writing this I remember that my truck makes a similar noise, problem is I don't have a cam possition sensor. 800 bucks is crazy If you are interested, ask around and find out if it will work, if thats the problem and let me know and I will throw it in my suite case.

no dice obd 1 for 95's had the same problem cost me alot to get it fixed.

What exacly was the fix in your case? Was it the CPS? 800 bucks is crazy You could do it in about an hour and a half with regular tools depending on what needs to come off. just mark the possition loosen 1 10mm bolt and pull.
