Hello Explorerers!
This has been going on for a while, but I got sick of holding the clutch everytime I stop! There was a little leak from the master cylinder where the pushrod comes in, so I assumed air can get in and get trapped. I replaced it, bled it vertically by stretching the line (couldn't get the slave coupling off
). Installed everything, and the pressure plate moves about 3/8". Is that sufficient? The slave doesn't appear to be leaking, however a bunch of white gunk did come out as I was bleeding.
I also drained the tranny, and filled with Castrol Merc/Dext. Is that the best fluid to use for this trans? Should I get the Motorcraft or go some other route?
While driving, the shifting is perfect, however from a dead stop, its just as impossible to throw it into gear right after pressing the clutch. If I wait 3 seconds however, it goes into any gear like butter (after pressing the clutch, or after you stop forcing the gearshift).
It seems to me that the problem is the mainshaft takes some time to spin down. Could this be caused by fluid? excessive fluid maybe? When I drained it, a lot of fluid came out of the fill plug. When I filled it, I put a little more than necessary (didn't let all the excess come out, but not too much) because I was worried the ground wasn't perfectly flat.
Or is the problem still with a dragging clutch? P.S. there is no creep until the pedal is about 1/4 way off the floor.
Thanks a bunch guys!!!
