Hey guys-
I've been asking a ton of questions on my 2000 Mountaineer. I just got it from my family, it has 2000 miles on it (and some other problems that I'm getting fixed). In terms of maintenance, what should I do in order to make sure this truck lasts me for a while longer? Everything seems to be fine now- but want to do some preventitive stuff to insure some longevity with it. I don't have a manual for it, so I don't know what needs done.

Thanks

do you know what was done as maintenace?

at that mileage, you would probably need wires, filters and spark plugs to say the least....

Not in the moment, but- am getting the files on it this week, so I'll have a better idea then. Other than that- anything else w/ the AC, transmission or other? How long can I go WITHOUT doing any repairs?
Thanks

A 2000 Mountaineer with 2000 miles

You should be good for a while :p:

ok- so... I can do the plugs/wires.

What about the PCV valve or Oxygen Sensor? Do those need replaced? Or, how can I tell if they should be replaced? Anything else I am missing?

You should definitly switch to a high mileage oil. Doesn't need to be a synthetic but you should be using high mileage. With that, change the oil filter. This is cheap and will save hassel later. Plugs and wires should be changed. Also possibly a new belt but they can be expensive and hard to replace. You may decide to just wait until the one there goes bad. Next, check the condition of your air filter. If it looks real dirty, replace it. If not, you may want to blow the little amount of dust out with an air compressor. Lastly, I would change all fluid because you do not know what was done on it and when. Try to flush as much of the old junk out of there. This should especially be done with the coolant.

All of this stuff is very cheap (with exseption to MAYBE the belt) and will help PREVENT problems later. Remember that you can take care of your engine as well as anyone but you sometimes just cant control bad luck.

Oxygen sensors can be expensive. Unless you feel yours is going bad or your engine isn't running sufficently enough, you probably do not need to replace it.
