- '96 Explorer XLT
Just bought a what-I-though-was MINT '96 Explorer that has a new transmission installed - 100K on drivetrain. As I said, the overall condition is primo, and I bought it from my auto mechanic who has given me great service for over 5 years.
But ... I've begun to notice that when it switches gear from 2nd into 3rd, the revs bump up from 500 to 1200 RPM and it takes a good second or two to be fully engaged. It does this regardless of whether the selector is in OD or not.
Before I take it back to my mechanic - is there any info you guys out there could share with me? Is this a known/standard issue with this transmission? what could be the likely cause? What's the remedy? Is there any harm in driving "as is" or should I get it back to him ASAP.
All advice to this new Explorer owner greatly appreciated
