I have this ‘96 Explorer 4.0 XLT, a misfire has been bugging me for quite a while, but lately it has become more annoying, since a have been using the car more than earlier. It’s not my everyday-car.
I can easily provoke the misfire to occur when driving up a hill, when hitting the pedal, the engine stumbles and hesitates to rev up.
Hitting the pedal to the floor is what it usily ends up with, a downshift and the engine is pulling again, but not smoothly.
I thought it was a good idea to start with replacing spark plugs and cables, but new cables and SP-486 spark plugs did not solve anything, the engine actually run even worse, so I thing I will put back the old plugs tomorrow.
I have also tried with another coil, but no change. There is no DTC present at his time.
Have you guys any ideas or advice what to look for ? Do I need to start a thorough investigation of all sensors and measuring ?
All help is much appreciated.
