'96 4r55e with NO fwd drive & P0731 & P0500 but reverse is fine/solid.
Just picked a really clean 96 explorer that has140k on the clock from a guy down the street for $100. He said tranny suddenly went out on him and just wanted it gone. I called roadside but couldn't get a confirmation after a half hour so I said screw it and drove it 2.1 miles backwards in reverse. It ran excellent doing 20-30mph but I have no fwd movement at all in any gear.
Trying to figure out where the issue might be? I've found other posts with this issue but never a resolution for the problem.
I noticed the fluid appears 1 to 2 qrts overfilled when checking it cold and it also appears to be very clear looking with no burnt smell.
Would be great if it was an easy fix related to the valve body issues but it's ok if not, think this might be a great candidate for my first tranny rebuild but want to know where the issues might be once I get it torn down.
I also picked up a tranny pressure gauge a few weeks ago so I have that on hand if needed for diagnosing.
