I just bought up a 96 5.0 AWD explorer for 500 bucks. For 230k miles it's in GREAT shape. Everything works including the A/c and sunroof. lol Driver's seat is pretty warn but that's something a trip to the junkyard can fix. I've tried to search on here but not coming up with what I'm looking for so I figured I'd post it up and hopefully you guys will take it easy on the noob.

I'll post pics in a build thread coming soon. I'm going to turn this into my next tornado chasing vehicle. My previous was a 4x4 lifted 92 ranger. I'm going rhino line the whole truck. I want to put a 2-4in lift on it. Mild wheel and tire combo and Mild H/C/I to give it a little more punch. I've had 5.0 stangs but I've heard these motors a little different.

What would be a good lift to put on this? The only ones I'm finding are 2k super crazy lifts. I'm only looking for 2-4in. Something to put a bigger wheel and tire combo on and I'm not going to cop out and do just a body lift. I'll probably just put a newer explorer rim on it and BFG all terrains. Tire size's would be very helpful and if you guys have any photos of your rig I'd really appreciate it too.

And recommendations for a MILD H/C/I would also be very appreciated. Thanks for your help and I look forward to having some fun with my new exploder.

Do a search; look at shackles and TT's. Perhpas an add-a-leaf.

I've been searching for about 45 minutes and I haven't found what I'm looking for. I'll try to search those items.

What would you recommend given what I'm wanting to do? Sorry but I know just about nothing about this stuff. Thanks for the links. Those look to be very helpful when I need to install

how do you post a question? i see no 'post question' tab,,,nothing

No problem. I'm going with a TT and shackles; quick, easy, and painless. Not to mention cheap. Gives that couple of extra inches needed for clearing without going crazy.

If you want more than that 2", look at adding a body lift or doing more in the suspension. Both of which I know very little about; I'll let the others chime in on that.

Is there a brand you recommend? And a good place to purchase?

If you are going the H/C/I route, you need to address the exhaust manifolds, and when I say 'address' them, I'm REALLY saying you need to get rid of them, and replace them with TorqueMonster Headers.

Oh yeah. I'll be doing full exhaust and probably dump after the mufflers. I think I'm just going to have my buddy port the stock heads and intake and run a e cam. Thanks for the advise.

There are other on the shelf cams out there that are better suited for the Explorer. makes more torque, and costs less...

I just realized this is in the wrong forum....

Modified 95-01 or Need for Speed are better places for this discussion...

Ryan

So you take the time to make a pointless point?

There is no need to get mouthy.....
I posted that, so the moderators would see it, they would move it. And the discussion could continue.

But with THAT attitude, your not doing yourself any favors.

Good luck in your project.

Ryan

Thanks. There are like 600 sub forums and I figured seeing how I had a stock 96 explorer I'd post in the stock explorer forum. If you cant post help outside of the 'proper' forum then why post at all?
