96 awd v8 rear axle seals

hey there i need to replace the axle seal on the explorer rear driver side .im gona do both while im at it.just wondering if anyone knows if i can replace the seal without touching the bearing .a mechanic told me the bearing might be first and then the seal .is this true?..is the seal on the axle or the rear end housing?.any help would be apreciated.thanks

I am pretty sure its seal then bearing. I don't see how it could ever really be bearing then seal cause the bearing would burn up without getting fluid. A trick to gettin them out...take the axle end and use it as a pry bar. Works sometimes.
