Hey!
Thanks for the "New Member" welcome Rick!
Just bought a '96 B3000 Cab+ 4x4 5spd Manual 237000 mile toy for $500 so she's got a few issues.....
I had a '84 B2000 2wd 5spd that I got when it had 200000 miles on it and put another 100000 miles on the odometer before my nephew cross threaded a plug during her last tune-up and sent her to the field. Loved that little truck!
Hoping this B3000 has a bunch of miles left in her too. Body is solid no visible rust, there was rust in the radiator, overflow reservoir, and cap is coated in rust colored residue (flushed the system and after 200 miles the Coolant is still clean looking, I'll continue inspecting the coolant for color change weekly)! Engine Oil is clean looking with 800 miles on the Oil Change sticker (I'll SeaFoam and swap in Mobil1 Extended Full Synthetic 5-30 oil/filter myself after checking the valve cover bolt torques). The Plug wires are an aftermarket 8mm "Made in USA" labeled set that I can't see a Brand name on and will replace soon with Motorcraft set along with the Motorcraft Coil-Pack and Autolite Iridium plugs all on their way from RockAuto (half of what I could find them elsewhere for!). It idles slightly rough so I'm hoping replacement of ignition parts, Air Filter along with cleaning Mass Flow Sensor will smooth it out. Ran a can of SeaFoam through the Fuel tank, on my second can and tank full now.
Looks like the muffler and tailpipe might be aftermarket (unknown) and it has a bit of a nice low rumble on it but their surface is pretty rusty. Anybody have an opinion on exhaust heat tape actually improving scavaging characteristics by keeping exhaust pathway hotter when wrapping as much of the system as can be reached from the manifold back?
The radiator cap was a Motorcraft and it cleaned up looking like new, hoping the 13-16 lbs rating is still functional, the engine temp gauge is reading lower than when I first picked her up now that I did the flush.
The rough idle is less pronounced after the first can of SeaFoam thru the fuel system.
