Brought my 96 Explorer to a local tranny shop to address a bad 2-3 shift flare etc.Estimate was a little over $700.00 parts and labor for there fix!Not in the budget. So a couple weeks later I was at a u pull it junkyard with my son and pulled a used TPS off a another Explorer, installed and oh ya shifts perfect.Might add part was free, thrown in with some other parts we purchased.Maybe I got lucky, but I would try the TPS first. Also a scan did not show low voltage at the TPS prior to any of the repair. Its been over 2 months and 2200 miles keeping my fingers crossed.Hopefully this might help someone else.

Tps could get a tiny dead spot like a dimmer switch. Likely where the pedal rests most of the time cruising. Check out the old one with a multitester as you slowly rotate it. Could be a tiny glitch.

Anyone know how well the TPS is sealed? Any chance of spraying some contact cleaner in and working it around?

If it's like Ford's other carbon track potentiometer parts on the vehicle, it might succumb to old, hardened grease?

Tried it ...no dice
And buy a ford unit
I found a jy unit was nicer than a aftermarket one to
