- 2001 Mazda B3000
I have done a ton of research on the various Explorer and Ranger Forum sites on this topic.
My 2001 Mazda B3000 (3.0 V6, 5R44E Automatic Transmission, 2WD) has developed the infamous 2/3 shift flare. Sporadically the OD Light will also flash.
Before I attempted the DIY on the valve body gasket, EPC Solenoid, TSB, Shift Kit etc I took the truck to the local AAMCO shop who does good work but it known to overkill the repair.
They did a diagnostic and told me the Transmission needs a complete rebuild for $3000 including new pistons and other internals (Banner kit), valve body, bands, fluid, filter etc.
AAMCO's comments:
1. Transmission is running in fail safe mode
2. Computer codes were stored (they did not share the code numbers).
If I perform the DIY approach (valve body gasket, EPC Solenoid, TSB, Shift Kit etc) what are the chances that the DIY approach will solve my 2/3 shift flare issue?
