Ive read through many threads about this already. I have replaced the MAF and it did nothing. It has no power whatsoever, Im going to double check again, but i think all the intake hoses are good. I have replaced plug wires, plugs, ignition coil, (IC made it run ok rof awhile, but was burned up a few years back.
Basically anything underneath the shroud above intake manifold I have looked at/replaced and only for nothing at all. It used to run awefully loud, but that was fan clutch, now i can acutally hear it and there is no leaks that you can hear.
Also fuel injectors have been cleaned, new fuel pump. It runs so hard it maybe gets 7-10 MPG even onb highway, killin my pocket!
after it sits overnight/few hours you either have to hold down throttle or it will die. At stops I have to constantly hold my foot down on the pedal or it will die. Very rarely will it stay running good.
Dont know if this helps but when its cold it seems it runs better but takes forever to heat up. that in mind its a new water pump/temp gauge/gaskets.

Anybody have any advice? Im by no means a car mechanic, but more of a parts replacer lol. Thank you so much in advance

Checked/Cleaned the IAC? Sounds like a possibility.

And theres no check engine light yet? If so what do the codes say. Since you said you have a clutch it may be safe to say you have a 4.0l ohv. Its a '96 so mileage may be(190k miles).

There is still some guesswork, which costs money.

You could have a vacuum leak which is a common winter time issue but Its hard to tell.

The deal with the IAC is i replaced it and and only let it run a like a min, so it wouldn't have had time to reset. But it did nothing whatsoever. Do i have to let the computer read it for awhile first?
And no its an automatic, the fan clutch just made it run lots less noisy.
I dont think i ever cleaned the IAC, but ill have to take a better look at it tomorrow, just the fact i put a brand new one on and it didn't help made me not think about that much anymore. i replaced the intake gaskets, as well, dont know if i posted that, its just running real rough basically all the time and getting horrible gas mileage. Righ gas smell as well.

my first thought was vacuum hoses
second thought was lambda
Another thought is the thermostat (cheap part)
Have you also disconnected the battery for half hour or so to cleared stored faults.

I had the same problem with the idle, had to drive with two feet because if I let off the gas it would die. I had no check engine light either. I replaced the IAC and also made sure the gasket on that was good and tightened it down good and unhooked the battery for 15 mins or so. That cleared up my problem for me.
