Hello, so I've got a 96 ford explorer which has been a great vehicle since I got it. Recently, when running it began making a squeaking sound, which I assumed was a belt Slipping. Not long after, at start up, the engine sounds like a go kart. it's fine once I get it on the road and moving, but it has to get up to 40 mph before it sounds somewhat normal. It has about 200k miles on it. I'll take it to a shop if necessary but wanted ideas on how to do it myself if I don't have to pay for it. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

Sounds like your idler pulley or a bearing on one of your engine accessories is failing.

Take off your serpentine belt and check all your pulleys for noise, looseness, or roughness in rotation.
