A friend of mine has a 96 Explorer with a V6, that's all the info I have on the make model.

It just started cutting off when it gets hot.
He said the engine will just die, and will not restart until it cools down. He said that sometimes it will restart but will immediately cut back off.
When the outside air temp is cool, such as at night, the truck runs fine.

He was told that it could be one of 6 "heat sensors", and that they cost about $150/each, and it would only be a guess as to which one was causing the trouble.

Please email with response: jamnw@bellsouth.net

thank you,
jamie

BLAHHH HAHAHAHA! Heat sensor?

load of crapola.

Sounds like a loose wire to me, or possibly his fuel lines has made it;s way too close to the exhaust. Without more info it;s hard to say.

Can you elaborate on your reply?

What kind of information are you looking for?

I'm not being smart, but what about the fuel line?
Other than what I think would be the obvious, a leak spurting gas on the exhaust and catching on fire.

Thanks,
jamie

it's probably something that's electronic that gets too hot and can't function anymore, like a wire is getting burned. But as always, I could be wrong

Jamnw, ask your friend if he can recreate the problem and then instead of just trying to normally start it, tell him to put his foot on the accelerator and see if it will start that way.
