I know this has been discussed but there seems to be some conflicting information out there. Some say that the EDIS is part of the ECM, others say it's part of the Coil Pack, while others say it is separate and behind the grill. I was hoping for it to be behind the grill but I can't find it. My Haynes Manual wiring diagram shows it to be a separate unit, but it doesn't say where it is.
Can someone tell me exactly where I can find the EDIS on the 96 Explorer, XLT with the 4.0 engine.
Thank you,
Dave

96 is obd2 and the ignition controller is inside the PCM

the 91-94 trucks were OBD1 and they had a separate ignition module, it was mounted behind the drivers headlight on the inner fender

Thank you for the information. I've been chasing a possible wiring problem with my Haynes Manual's wiring diagram for the 4.0 pushrod engine but it didn't make sense. The 96's pushrod wiring seems more like the SOHV wiring. Haynes didn't include a wiring diagram for pre and post OBD2.

Thanks for all your help,
Dave

Haynes/ Chiltons is not good for wiring, they cover the basics thats about it

For real wiring help you can get the EVTM on ebay for your 96 usually under $30

In case anybody else wonders where the EDIS is I'm posting this pic inside the PCM. The lower right hand corner has a chip marked as the EDIS.
