I have a 96 Ranger xlt , and I just bought it. The speedometer was not working and I replaced the speed sensor and it's still not working. Any one have any suggestions?

Which sensor did you replace? There are a few speed sensors on the truck.

check the rear body harness, under the drivers side of the cab (almost under the sear) if its the same as the '98 I have, the harness has 2 plugs on a bracket that is mounted to the frame in such a way that the wires rub against the floor pan of the truck.

Hope this helps

ETA: Oh, 96 speedo should be off the tail shaft on the trans... so what I just posted will NOT help much...

The problem could be wear in the transfer case. 1st step in diagonsing is to remove the sensor and run it with a drill with the key on and have a helper watch the speedo. if it moves you have a t-case problem. From what i could find while diagnosing mine the drive gear isnt keyed to the output shaft and wears over time until it no longer spins with the shaft.
