Hello again. I have a 96 5.0 and I'm trying to finish up the exhaust. All is well until after the muffler.

I need to install the tailpipe and under normal circumstances, this wouldn't be an issue.

I've gone to the junkyard many times to find a tailpipe and ok so they ALL exit out the muffler, come up over the axle, go under the passenger side frame, and exit.

Mine, for some odd reason, does NOT go under the frame.

I've researched this until the cows come home and I cannot find anything that would make my V8 Explorer special in any way that it would be different.

So... what's the difference?

With the age of your truck its entirely possible someone had the muffler and tailpipe replaced in the past. Most muffler shops bend their own tubes and weld in whatever mufflers they have on hand instead of buying pre-made so the exact routing is not guaranteed to match factory. Most of the time they are close, but certainly is not uncommon to have different sizes or dump in another location.

I think you might be right. I went and took another whack at it just now. The bracket in the rear, inside passenger side was bolted on, not riveted like in the junkyard.

I was able to unbolt it and move it further back and on the outside of the frame.

The exhaust then came VERY close to matching up so I just started motivating the pipes to go where I wanted with a sledge hammer...

LOL I have my full exhaust on now and it only cost me $30 from a junkyard.
