I have a 96 XLT 4D that I would like to lower. I've seen the "X-Suspension" kit that ExplorerExpress sells. I would like to know if there are any alternatives.

I am hoping to emulate mods I saw performed on the 98 Steeda Explorer ... lowering kit, Corbra wheels, and a few other odds and ends. I want to start with the suspension, then performance mods.

I know that Edelbrock makes shocks 1.5" shorter than OEM for use with lowering kits. Are they any others?

What is the offset of the OEM Explorer wheels?

Anyone know of a good resource in North Georgia that can install the lowering kit and suspension?

Is there anything else I should be concerned with?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Another shock option is what Saleen used on the XP8 - N2 Racecraft shocks...right now they are $50 each!! I'm strongly considering these myself because they are so much cheaper than the edel's. The N2 shocks are designed for a lowered explorer. I called the parts dept. and asked but I forget how much shorter they are.
Anyway, that's a great deal....and if you ever end up getting cobra's get them from gefracing.com I got mine there. They had the best price by far, reasonable shipping costs and it took them 4 days to get here (NH from GA) Great service! I was able to run my cobra's with Bridgestone Dueler HP 275/55/17 without spacers too. They rub at *full* turn but that's it.

I'm trying to do the same as you with my '96 5.0 - except in a different order =)
Good Luck. I'd be glad to answer any more questions
