Hi

I just joined the explorer forum. I have a 96 xlt which i just replaced the trans with a reman unit. I replaced the trans because 2 to 3 slipped. All gears and shifting works fine now. However now when I decelerate I hear a noise like a chain slipping on gears. As soon as I give it some gas the nosie goes away but will come back again after i let off the pedal. Also I beleive the transfer case may be ingaging on its own or have a internal problem because yesterday when I decelarated I heard/felt a loud thunking noise with was repeating itself. I then took the front driveshaft off and I have not heard or felt the loud thunking noise. Has anyone have any ideas? I'm sure it is the transfer case just want to be on the safe side. Thanks for the help!!!

Got a similiar problem with my 99 XLT. Noise from front end which is worse when 4WD is selected. Removed driveshaft and noise goes away 99%.
I've had driveshaft checked and all's ok. I also suspect Transfer case but would like to hear if anyone has any suggestions as to what to do next !!
