96 XLT Transmission - Thud Sound

All,
Whenever I slow down for a stop, I hear a thud or thunk sound while breaking slowly. The thud comes around 15MPH. Sound is not related to the brakes and definitely sounds like from the transmission.

Have no problem accelerating, smooth shift and no thud sound. Transmission fluid was flushed 35K miles ago (3 1/2 years). Is this the beginning to a tranny problem?

Could be. That was one symptom that mine started showing around 95K. It had a harsh downshift at about 15 MPH that was easily felt and heard. In addition to the thud, I noticed it started revving up just before it would shift up to the next gear and also made a loud bang when going from R to D or D to R. End result was I needed to have the transmission rebuilt.
