I have a 97 eb V8 AWD. The trans went out, don't know what happened but I lost all foward gears. 2 years ago me and a friend bought a 97 V8 AWD Mountaineer to swap the drivetrain in to a ranger. The mounty ran perfect and only had 72,000 miles on it. We never finished the swap so the motor and trans have been sitting in my barn for the past 2 years. There was nothing wrong with the trans the last time it was used so I put it in my X. Now the trans only has reverse and 2nd. I can manually shift it into 1st and if I pull the shifter form drive to second and then back to drive it will shift into 3rd but it will only stay there for about 5 to 10 seconds. I don't know much about transmissions but I know enough by searching the forums that this has to be in the valve body, possibly electrical. Can someone please help me figure this out. I think either the valve body is stuck or that something electrical went bad while sitting for 2 years.
