i have a 05 ranger 3.0 that the motor still running but wore out it has 330,000 miles on it I can get this old 97 moutaineer 5.0 for 300 bucks probably gonna rebuild the 5.0 it's only has 139,000 on it. my question is to what lengths will I have to go through the to get the 5.0 in the ranger fortunately I have the moutaineer to pull parts out of like the suspension and I'm aware of the radiator mod with the electric fan is there any other thing that I can't bolt on I'll need to change. If it's an insane project I'll rebuild the 3.0 but if it looks like it's not to bad of a swap I'll rebuild the 5.0 drop it in the ranger. Thanks for any help

You'll probably have to swap the Expo instrument cluster and evap system components -- the later Ranger bits are just too modern for the earlier PCM. The '97 comes with it's own speed signal, does not have PATS so both of those are "good things" -- modding the fuel system to drop the pressure and have a full fuel return is not that big a deal.

None of the work is particularly difficult, just a bunch of detail work with the wiring diagrams and wiring mods.

Definately a truck Ford should have built.

Nope, You'll need the '97 5.0 PCM to run the engine and transmission and that PCM simply cannot make the '05 Ranger dash work. They "talk" different languages and don't share a protocol with each other.

And nope, the '05 Ranger uses a high pressure fuel system with the fuel pressure regulator in the tank and the excess fuel return comming from the under cab fuel filter. The '97 5.0 needs a much lower fuel pressure system, has its FPR on it's fuel rail and the excess fuel return starts at the fuel rail and goes all the way back to the tank.
