I had the CEL go on a couple of days ago, but it seemed to be running fine so I figured I'd look into it this coming weekend.
As of this morning when I try to start it, it idles rough and then dies if I don't continually keep pressure on the gas pedal. I can also hear something leaking under the hood.

FYI I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to working on cars, so you'll have to bear with me here..... please. ;)

Looking through the forums here I'm assuming that it's a vacuum leak somewhere. Also it is giving touble code P0455 - EVAP Emission Control System Leak (large).

My problem is that I cannot find this "tree" that the lines and caps hook up to that I keep reading about in other threads.
Is it anywhere accessable? Do I have to take anything apart to gain access to it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'd like to learn more about working on my truck, and I'm thinking this will be a good first step!

Thanks in advance,

~dave

Should be on the driver's side, right near the firewall. Should see a box with 4-6 tubes running into it. If all the lines are connected there, follow the lines til they end. Also check and make sure you didn't blow off the EGR/DPFE tubes. Search for Where's EGR for how to find it.

Follow your ears grasshopper. There's nothing involved that can hurt you so feel free to touch, pull push etc....

On the 97 5.0s, many of the vacuum lines are underneith the driver's side of the upper intake. They can be a huge PITA to reach. There are also vacuum lines running to the driver's side fenderwell for the EVAP control system.
