Hey guys my name is Robbie...I have some questions about my X and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. This winter I have noticed that on cold starts early in the morning or after my x has been sitting for a few hours I have a hard time keeping the thing running it starts right up but immediately starts idle surging and cuts off... If I give it gas it will tac up but still surge a bit. But on warmer days I have no problem...Any thoughts on what it could be and the best/reasonable fix... Thanks

I am thinking the IAC valve.

IAC valve, maybe, o2 sensors, TPS, or a combination of all 3.

Last June when my emissions check was due I had a check engine light on I can't remember the code but my buddie told me to clean my mass air sensor did it reset the computer drove it and it didn't come back on til 3 weeks after my inspection. Could it be the mass air flow bad?

I also wonder about the intake gaskets.

I had similar symptoms on my 2001 V-6 SOHC .............. intake gasket resolved it

I have this same problem on my 2000 X with the sohc. It's important to keep in mind it only occurs during startup, idles fine within 10 seconds. Also only when it's below mid 40s Farenheit. I just deal with it as it is. I would suggest a cheap fix attempt and is worthwhile anyway would be cleaning the mass air flow sensor. Caution.....the cleaner used is important. You could clean out the IAC but I dont see that as temperature-sensitive. You could get a scan of the engine....I suspect a weak sensor involving ambient temp or coolant temp, wouldnt hurt to replace one at a time too.
Maybe a weak O2 sensor. Or do like I'm gonna do, wait til it gets so bad the CEL comes on and you can get Auto Zone to give you a code for free. If we never get the CEL, that would point to something in the fuel supply area.
