97 mountaineer 5.0l temp gauge not working

Unfortunately I ran my truck 20 miles with no water only oil keeping it cool. Took upper and lower intakes off. Replaced the ect sensor and the sender recently and still have horrible gas mileage and my gauge still isn't working. I did have to replace the thermostat housing but did not put another thermostat in it. Could that cause the gauge to still not work?

Welcome to the forum. IIRC there is a temp sender for the gauge, & a different temp sender for the computer.
