I'm looking at a '97 2.3 Ranger w/ the automatic od tranny.
Current owner says the tranny is on it's way out. Long shift from 1st to 2nd and the od does not work. So I'm wondering if the tranny is really shot, or maybe just needs a little love. I haven't seen this thing in person or driven it yet, only pics, but the price seems to be right to maybe take a gamble with the tranny issue. If I get it for what I think I can($4/500), I wouldn't be too devastated if I had to swap a tranny, but maybe I'd get lucky and all it needs is a service and some adjustments. Got 106k miles.
What do you guys think? Shot or not?
