a search did not turn up much related to this
I replaced the modulator due a persistent drip of fluid when I dropped the pan for a fluid/filter change and had to replace a rooted tailpipe flange so pulled the cats. quite a job in itself. any ways replaced the modulator and altho reverse and low shifts into no problem, or into 'd' or 'od' these need high rpms (I think) and sudden back off the throttle to shift.
I it servicable but would like to tune the modulator if anyone has any info or links to.
the old one had a slotted screw run down aways in the bore and the new one (made in usa btw) has an allen that sticks out about 1/4" maybe bit less?
thanks for any tips.

Hey man, hard to figure out what you are saying but it sounds like your transmission doesn't like to shift out of 1st into 2nd, 2nd into 3rd? You have to run the rpm up high and let off the gas to get it to shift?

Search "governor". Does it get a bit better when the trans warms up?

that's about right, when it does shift it's smooth and fast. just seems late to shift since I replaced the vac modulator - suddenly letting off throttle will cause it to shift

as said it's fine going into reverse or 1 st. an A4LD, 4x4
I'll check 'governor' but I'm thinking the replacement moddy may need calibrated - does this make sense? BTW this is the 1st auto trans vehicle I've ever owned (at age 62 no less)

thanks to you 2. I pulled the hump cover for the tranny floor shift to access the mod valve and backed off the allen 1 turn. doles OK now shift into 'd', have to get it onto the hi-way to check the 'od' position. as said low and reverse no problem, a quick fairly soft shift.
I was planning on takeing out the carpet anyway as there is (was) a sort of musty smell in damp weather and the inside window would fog up with floor heat on. I found the leaks to the exterior - a factory design flaw if there ever was one.
a seperate thread could be posted describing the cats drop. what a royal PITA.
beleive me if you have to access the vac mod pull the floor shifter plate.
