97 Ranger. The clutch won't disengage.

97 ranger 2.3 L manual trans, runs good - But - periodically after driving truck I come to a stop, engage clutch, and then nothing - release clutch pedal and clutch won't disengage. No noises, or prior warnings. I have left vehicle overnight and the next day, got back in and drove it home.
When truck is driving good, clutch is solid.
I haven't pulled any parts yet.
Want to get a good understanding of what could possibly cause this type of problem before I start the work.

I've seen some good information from this site before. Used it to help when my timing belt broke, and ran into some unique problems pulling the Harmonic Balancer. I hope I can find someone who has had this problem.
