Hello everyone, I experienced fuel pump failure last night on the way home from work. Dropped the tank this morning and removed the whole unit to replace...quick question though. I noticed the wires coming off the fuel pump so that means they are submerged in gasoline all of the time which leads me to my question...How safe is it to replace just the pump and screen with an aftermarket pump which requires you so splice into the original harness wires? and also is there a method recommended to cover the spliced connection? Please help, IM STRANDED! - Jas

Not a real problem...

As long as the terminals are insulated against shorting there will be no problems...Most, if not all, aftermarket pumps will come with either a splice-in harness or an adapter to interface the old connector to the new connector on the pump...

If you have to cut wires and use connectors spliced, make damn sure there is no way for the 2 connectors to have any exposed wires or metal in the splices...
