I wouldn't exactly call it 'rampant' if this forum is any indication of the general population of Explorer owners.... Occasionally, one or two of them pop up here and there, and it usually ties back to a sensor gone bad or frayed wiring causing erroneous signals to be sent to the GEM... Overall, for the way it works, I find it's pretty robust. yes, it has its weak points, but overall, not too shabby (especially given how many they made over the years!!)

We have had three and two of them have the same issue. Rampant is his words not mine and since he works at the plant I would trust what he says.

But whatever, not worth the effort to argue over.
