Unless you're adjusting ride height, just replace the cover.
Removing the broken cover bolt in the frame should be easy.

Thank you for the suspension forum link. I will indeed look through the topics there. My immediate concern when I started this thread was using the forum knowledge pool to make sure I didn't need a repair before my first off-road adventure, which I have to be fully prepared for by the end of next week. It's pretty genteel when contrasted with some photos on this site, but then it's my first, so it shouldn't be super demanding. I think I'm good without doing anything mechanical, so now I can focus on getting the right outfit together.
