I am having one heck of a time with my explorer's stero wires. I know my first mistake was cutting the wires instead of buying a snap on harness. But I was wanting to know if it is still possible to connect a Pioneer deh-p3900mp to it without buying the harness. I'm a little confused on some parts cause the cd player has less wires than the explorer does.

Thanks

Your X probably has extra wires because of the dimmer, illumination, and antenna(if you ahve a power antenna) wires. Some aftermarkets don't have those wires, here are the wire colors for you though:

Constant 12V+ ---Green/Purple
Switched 12V+ ---Yellow/Black
Ground -----------Black/Light Green
Illumination -------Light Blue/Red
Dimmer -----------n/a
Antenna Trigger --Orange/Blue

Left Front (+) ----Orange/Light Green
Left Front (-) -----Light Blue/White

Right Front (+) ----White/Light Green
Right Front (-) ----Dark Green/Orange

Left Rear (+) -----Gray/Light Blue
Left Rear (-) -----Tan/Yellow

Right Rear (+) ----Orange/Red
Right Rear (-) ----Brown/Pink

Thanks for the reply. A problem I had was a random blue wire that I didn't know what it went to. I just wired it with the hot's and everything works fine now.

Blue wire from the X or from the radio? Cause if it's from the radio it's remote turn on for an amp, and if that's it, then I would cut it ASAP cause it shouldn't be connected to anything other than an amp or something that needs to be remotely turned on. If it's from the X, then I dunno what it would be.
