Hey All,
New Explorer owner- just purchased a '97 XLT SOHC, auto with 58k. So far so good but recently had it in for a tune-up to an independent, but very reputible Ford shop, and they noticed a strange noise coming from the transmission. It occurs when you shift into any gear with the brake on but will go away when put into P or N. It sounds like a loud whooshing type noise, almost like a vacume leak.
The transmission seems very strong otherwise with good shifts and clean fluid. I checked with Ford and they mentioned a TSB that states the noise is caused by some kind of internal transmission seal opening being too small resulting in the sound caused by the fluid forced through too small of an opening, or something like that. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this happen, and if it is a problem that needs to be dealt with. Any input woud be very much appreciated.
Regards,
