I have CEL codes PO-141 and PO-153, indicating the the right aft ( as viewed from the driver's seat) and left forward sensors are "slow to respond" and "faulted", respectively. After locating them, I noticed what appears to be an inspection port above the aft sensor that is held in pace with screws from inside the vehicle and clips in the floor that the screws go through.

Questions: 1. Can that inspection port be removed to help in the replacement procedure?

2. Will a 7/8ths open-end wrench work to remove the sensors? I have a socket set borrowed from Auto Zone, but it doesn't fit in the available area.

3. Is it necessary to replace a sensor that is "slow to respond", or is there something I can do to "speed it up"?

4. Is it easier to remove the sensors while they are hot, or will just using PB Blaster do the trick?

Thank you for any help in this matter.

Bump

I have the same CEL come on every couple days, it goes away after a few minutes, had it pulled by a buddy, "slow to respond, bank 1 pos 1" I think it was. What do I do to fix it?

Please answer if you can to any of these questions. Thank you.]

Yeah a open end wrench will work... Opening the inspection port is probably more work than getting it out from underneath.... i replaced two of mine in a parking lot... I dont think you can do anything to fix the sensors once they start going bad... i removed mine while they were warm.. Getting them out of the pipes is nothing compared to getting them unplugged and plugged back in... they practically plug in on top the tranny....Patience and long skinny arms will get the job done...

I have replaced oxygen sensors without removing the cover and by removing it. It is much easier if you remove the cover.

Removing the "inspection port" involves removing the console and pulling back the carpet. There are four screws and a connector to remove to get the console out. Once the cover is removed you can easily unplug the sensors.

I have used the socketsto remove oxygen sensors, but most of the time, they can be removed with an adjustable wrench (crescent wrench).
