98 mountaineer 5.0 AWD
HI Everyone im a new member though i've been reading posts for a long time. At the moment i have a 98 mountaineer AWD that drives fine if u get the truck rolling about 30 yds and push the rpm's to about 2500-3000 then it will engage keeping it at 1000 rpm's is the problem. when u come to a stop or put the truck in park all u have is reverse. It never has problems going in reverse but getting it in drive is very tricky. Any comments Advice would be greatly helping. Thank you very much Bill

Also the fluid is very clean no smell filled 2 the correct level now. It was overfull i changed my radiator the tank busted the side with the tranny lines. I have not changed filter or done anything to the transmission i'm at a point where i've got to take it to a transmission shop if i can't get it fixed soon. Again thank you Bill

Shouldn't all autos act like they have a stall converter?

Sounds like a fluid issue, maybe a bad pump? Stuck valve?

I agree.... with ours it was b/c of low fluid, though it showed on the dipstick that it was fine...
