hi everyone.

I installed a new shift motor but it didn’t help. I’m not sure if I have the connector pins in the right place. I checked all my fusses , they all look good. Is there any relays I could look at? Does anyone have a diagram? Any help would be appreciated.

It would be helpful if you explained what problem you are experiencing with your 4x4 system. Is it not engaging...or, is it stuck in 4wd? Regardless, not really surprised to hear a new shift motor didn't solve your problem. It seldom does. More often than not, the problem lies within the transfer case.

Just for the record your shift motor only does anything to shift from auto/high to low. To do this you must be stopped in park, or neutral, with your foot on the brake.

The shift motor isn’t doing anything. I may have wired it wrong. If anyone has a wiring diagram for the connector pins that would be appreciated.

Your problem is that it’s not shifting into low range? Any flashing lights?

It’s not shifting into hi or low. Lights come on for hi 4x4 but nothing on low.

Both lights flash with no motor hooked up at all.

There is ZERO shifting into high. Absolutely nothing moves. You have a stored code if the lights are flashing. I’d start there. Do you have an ABS light on?

Nothing moves. I’ll clear the code before I reinstall the motor again. No abs or other lights are on. I’m thinking I have the wires put into the plug wrong or maybe a bad relay. If I can get a schematic of the wiring I could make sure I have it right.

I would get the code read instead of clearing it.

Nothing is SUPPOSED to move, except from high to low. From 2wd or 4 auto to 4wd high the clutch locks. You should just hear a set of relays click.

Ok I’ll get the codes then. Oh I thought the motor moves to shift it to hi 4x4. I don’t hear any relays click from auto to 4 hi. So the motor only moves when you shift to lo?

Yes. Otherwise, it just locks the Torque On Demand clutch for High.

Yeah, it could be. You can swap them around under the hood. I believe the 4wd ones are in the main distribution box under the hood, but I’m not certain. It’s been a long time since I had a V6.

Ok I’ll do that. Yes all the relays are under the hood. I’m not certain but my last explorer made a relay click sound in my dash. Thank you for your help.
