98 awd front t-case seal

Took my truck to the shop to have him replace front pinion seal. He fixed it but said the front t-case seal was also leaking and said it would have to be removed, takin to a transmition shop and split to replace the seal. Is that true? Or am I getting screwed on this?

If it's your '98, then yes it's true.
The only way to remove the front drive output shaft is to split the case apart.

Sorry Gavin. I was wondering if they have to split the t-case to replace the front output shaft seal. Not the shaft itself.

Ok. Wasn't sure if you miss read the question. Anyway thank you for the info. Just wasn't sure if he was blowing smoke up my arse or not. Would really suck to pay him a chunk of cash only to find out that it was a 10 min job.

Yeah, it's not a quick/easy job.
Granted I replaced all the bearings, seals, and chain, it took me several hours not including the cure-time for the silicone

The front output flange is part of the output shaft, unlike the rear output, front, and rear diffs that have the flange bolted on to the output shaft/pinion.
