I have a 98 explorer 4x4 XLT and I was wondering with a 3 inch body lift could I fit 30X10.5 or 30X11.5 super swampers without cutting anything to fit them on

you'd need wider backspaced rims to fit the 30x11.5s, but they should fit. Under flex and turning they might rub though at the corners of the wheel wells. The 30x10.5s will fit easily, and on stock rims.

do u think they will still rub with a 3 inch body lift and maybe a one or two inch suspension lift

The issue with a tire of that width on a stock rim is that 11.5 is close too wide for a stock rim and there probably isnt enough backspacing. With 4-3.25" backspacing you will fit 30s easy. I am running 33x12.5 w/ 3" BL , tt, shackles and I just had to cut some plastic off the running boards and move the fender well back.

Just wondering: why do you want tires that are short and wide? Ground clearance is important also, even for mudding. If you're already going to lift it, why not get tires that are taller and wider?

Thanks guys , appreciate it. Thats all the info I needed to Know,

Matt

Hey Alec what tires do you reccomend

Have you decided how much lift you want to put on it?

Right now Im saving up money but I know I want a 3 inch body and a 1 or 2 inch suspension. One of my friends friends ows a 2000 explorer 4x2 and has a custom body lift. Im trying to get him to sell it to me because hes selling his explorer

With 4" of lift I'd say 32s, but you may need to do some trimming. 32x11.5 will be much more useful than 30x11.5 ;) You may be able to fit 33s, 33x10.5 will be easier than 33x12.5. With both you'd have to trim, but 33x10.5 may actually be easier than 32x11.5 due to the width.

I could do trimming but would I have to with 31s

Hey, Ive been offroading 2 times with my explorer. Me and about 10 people are going to go again wed. Do you think I should wait and go offroading more when I get a lift or should I go on wed. There is some pretty deep mud holes. Do you think my explorer will hold up to another beating without the lift and tires, or should I wait. Oh and one more thing, If your tires are completely submerged do you risk damage? I go mudding for about a half hour.

31s will fit with just the bl OR 2" tt/shackle suspension lift.

you have to watch getting water in your intake and also in your driveline breather lines. but mostly if you can get out, you're fine :D

do you have 4.0L SOHC v6

nope, 4.0 OHV with lots of power mods.

Do your valves clatter. Mine do and I have 86,000 miles

How many miles do u have

~75k and yes

dont u think its a ****ty design
