Need to know why my tempature guage is not functioning. The truck doesn't overheat, but still I like to know what my tempature is always at.

Does it move at all? Do you get good heat out of your heater when it's on?

Are you sure the gauge isn't functioning? I ask because I thought the same thing because my gauge never moved and I thought the same thing that I had a faulty gauge, but come to find out, my thermostat was stuck open which was keeping my engine cold enough that it did t even move the gauge, 11$ later (New Tstat) and a half hour of work, I have heat so hot it burns, and a temp gauge that gets up to the correct temp now

Forgot to mention that It always stays under the cold mark

Ok that's what I had in mind but wasn't to sure on the thermostat . I also thought it might be some sort of sending unit from some where in the cooling system to the guage, like maybe something disconnected but yeah I also wondered about the thermostat. Let me know thanks fellows

And oh yeah I do get good heat out of the heater but I do need to get my a/c going by this summer.

Do you get good heat or HOT HOT HOT heat?

Mine was lukewarm at best, after the new thermostat it burns the hell outta me haha, after 5 minutes of it on fullblast, I gotta turn it off

there are two lines that run right out by the fire wall that run into your heater core. they are red and not very big maybe size of your pinky in diameter. wiggle those around just to make sure that cable runs up to the back of the guage and then the other goes down somewhere not sure off. try that maybe.

Hot hot air I would say, because when I put the defroster at 60 it still comes out hot

Engine coolant temperature sender

There is an engine coolant temperature sender that provides the signal for your engine coolant temperature gauge in the instrument cluster. The SOHC has two wires connected to it (a black/white to ground and a red/white to the gauge). The V8 and OHV only has the red/white wire. The reading is stabilized by the anti-slosh module as is the fuel gauge and oil pressure. Do you have any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)? Does your CHECK GAGE illuminate?

Yup Ima get the codes this weekened so I'll post them up and if I fan ge some help on the break down how to troubl shoot it I would greatly appreciate it thanks for your replies

Not check gauge but I gt my check engine light on

i have the same

my 98 xtl dose the same heat work well good and hot eng. dose not over heat but temp gauge only moves a little never above the cold mark........

thats exactly what my 98 does. ima replace the thermostat sometime next weekend so i'll keep you updated to let you know if thats the issue

It's one of the sensors under the manifold. In mine which is a 98 xlt explorer there are two sensors on them so I'm just going replace both. Some say your suppose to drain some of the coolant out but with out taking the air and half of the plastic to get to it can't be changed. There are two sensors right next to each other and for the price I'm just going to change both. My heat works fine like yours but starting to get warmer out and don't want to over heat. I can the two sensors just cant' get to them. It's on top with the hood open in the middle under all the tubing. That's the only thing I know so far when I get more details will let you know. And I did hook it up to a diagnostic machine, so I'm still not sure but I will change those two sensors first.

i was driving my 99 sport and the oil gauge was bouncing around here and there. hot to cold really quick. idk what it could be, need to diagnose it. anyone with similar problems?
